Before commencing any installation, have all your tools and materials accessible to you. This could save many hassles along the way during your installation.

  • Bamboo flooring planks-pre-finished or unfinished
  • Underlayment-foam or felt
  • Tape measure
  • Saw-circular saw miter saw, or jigsaw
  • Hammer or rubber mallet
  • Spacers
  • Adhesive (if required for glue-down installations)
  • Safety gear – gloves, goggles
  • Pull-bar and tapping block for floating floor installation
  • Level Now that you have your materials prepared, it is time to get started.

Step 2: Subfloor Preparation

Before laying one plank, your subfloor should be ready to rock. Concrete, plywood, and an existing floor-it have to be clean and dry, besides being level. First, sweep it off all dirt, dust, and other debris-things in the way of a smooth install simply shouldn’t be there. High areas? Sand them down. Or scrape them off. If it’s uneven, then take a leveling compound to make things even. Also, remember to check for moisture, especially on concrete. A moisture meter will be your best friend there; you don’t want any warping or buckling issues later!

Step no# 3 Bamboo Flooring

Bamboo is sensitive to changes in temperature and moisture. In a certain period, it may shrink or expand. Adjust your bamboo in advance of installation to avoid any problems. Set the boards in the room where they will be installed. Allow them to sit for at least 48 hours. This will allow the bamboo sufficient time to adjust to the level of moisture and temperature within the room. Without this, warping may be an issue down the road. For this, go slow and let the boards settle!

Step 4: Lay the Underlayment

In order to aid cushion, absorb noise, and shield against moisture that can rise from underneath, bamboo flooring usually needs underlayment.

  • Appropriate subfloor type: floating flooring can use either foam or felt, while glue-down installations may require a separate underlayment.
  • Underlayment: Roll out the underlayment in a single room corner until it reaches the other end, covering the area where you will put the bamboo planks.
  • Cut to Fit: Underlayment that does not fit along the room’s edges can be cut to fit using a utility knife.
  • Tape Seams: If your underlayment has seams, use tape to keep them in place during installation.

Step 5: Bamboo Flooring Installation

There are three types mainly: floating floor, nail-down, and glue-down. Check out each of them one by one down below!

Bambo Flooring Installation

1- Floating Floor Installation – Click-Lock System

  • Starting in the Corner: First, put the first row of bamboo planks in the corner, along the longest wall. There should be a one-fourth gap between the edge of the planks and the wall to accommodate expansion.
  • Install the Planks: If your bamboo floor is of the click-lock type, connect the planks by engaging the tongues and grooves and snapping the planks together. Use a tapping block and hammer to snug up the seams.
  • Proceed with the Rows: Lay the subsequent row after completing the first. For extra robustness and a more organic appearance, the seams between the rows should be spaced apart. Using a saw, trim the final plank in each row to fit.
  • Install Spacers: Place spacers between the planks and the wall to maintain the required expansion gap.

2- Nail-Down Installation

  • First Row: First row starting as it would with the floating floor method, install the first row of bamboo planks in the corner along the wall.
  • Nail the Planks: Using a flooring nailer, mount the planks to the subfloor; nails should be along the groove of every plank, not damaging the top face.
  • To the End: Continue across the room, nailing each row in place. As with the floating method, stagger the seams between the rows.
  • Cut Last Row: The last row is cut to fit with a saw, leaving the recommended expansion gap.

3-Glue-Down Installation

  • Apply Adhesive: Dip a trowel into the adhesive and spread a small portion of the subfloor evenly.
  • Place the bamboo planks down: Using your hands, press each plank down tight to adhere well.
  • Move on to the Next Section: Work in small sections, applying adhesive and laying the planks until the floor is completely covered.
  • Trim the Final Row: As with the other methods, use a saw to cut the last row of planks.

Step 6: Finishing Touches

After all the planks of bamboo are laid, now is the time for the finishing touches.

  • Remove Spacers: The spacers between the planks and walls should be removed.
  • Install Baseboards: One will install baseboards or quarter-round molding on top to cover the expansion gap between the floor and wall. Fasten in place the baseboard by nailing or screwing.
  • Cleaning the Floor: To remove any dust or debris left over from the installation procedure. This may entail sweeping or using a vacuum cleaner. Also, moist cloth can be used to clean the floor.
  • Let the Floor Settle: For the first day, avoid stepping on it and give space to the floor, as adhesives and nails may need the whole day to settle.

Step 7: Enjoy Your New Bamboo Floor

All that is left to enjoy your wonderful new floor is putting in the bamboo flooring! Bamboo is very hardy and extremely renewable. It can add so much to any room due to the touch of warmth and natural beauty it brings with it. Regular sweeping and vacuuming, along with the odd mop with a damp cloth, will keep the bamboo flooring amazing for many years to come.
